Lisbon Treaty

This thing got voted down hard last time. They made a few token exceptions for Ireland (but none of the other signatories) so that it will be more appealing; without change to the treaty substance. Reprehensible. I hope it gets voted down again.

I don’t know much about this but from what I skimmed it seems like they want the power to order countries to bail out failing banks. F that.

  2. They basically want to turn the EU into a bunch of Federalist states like the US did in the eighteenth century. However, not having the support to pass referendums in the various countries they decided to put it in a treaty instead. The problem was some countries like Ireland can force the issue due to their constitution giving them a direct vote over such issues.

In the US treaties are the supreme law of the land as well, but the president can sign as he wishes.
